Gateway to the West Origins of Nebraska History Ride

Saturday, May 9 at 8:30 am at The Historic Florence Mill

9102 N 30th Street, Omaha, NE 68112

We will hear presentations from Linda Meigs, The Mill Lady and local artist that saved the Historic Florence Mill. Linda will share information about The Mill, Winter Quarters and life in early Nebraska in the 1800's.

Then as a group we will ride on roads up to Ft Calhoun where we will have a tour and presentation at Ft Atkinson by Rob Bozel, Retired Archaeologist, Nebraska State Historical Society. On the way back to The Mill, we will stop for presentations by Rob Bozel at the archaeological dig sites where fur trading posts once stood along River Road.

Once back at The Historic Florence Mill we will enjoy an 1850's style lunch of Bison Stew with Bison meat from Golden Prairie Bison, along with cornbread and lemonade. 1850's string and percussion band will be playing at The Mill. Q&A with Linda Meigs and Rob Bozel. Tours of the Mill offered.
