Great American Ride
Justin Baker

Whats up Pedalers?! I know it's hard to believe with snow still on the ground, but Spring is almost here. For anyone wanting to get a head start on cycling season and get some miles in, I have something for you. I'm putting a team together for a virtual ride of the Great American Rail-Trail, a 3700 mile long trail that will span from Washington DC to Washington state upon completion.

To complete the challenge, the team as a whole will need to ride 3700 miles between March 19th and May 19th. So far, my team has 5 five riders including myself so each rider is obligated to ride ~93 miles per week. We have room though, and with a max team size of 12 riders the weekly obligation would be ~39 miles.

The miles can be ridden on an indoor bike trainer, as long as it is verifiable. There is a registration fee of $50 per rider, but you get a T-shirt, medal, and access to some nifty features of the virtual ride. So come ride with us! Just send me an email if you're ready to ride the Great American Rail Trail: jcbmaverick04@gmail.com

PS: Nebraska is an anchor state of the GART, since it has so much of the infrastructure already completed. It runs west into Omaha across the Bob Kerrey Bridge, then uses a combination of city trails, MoPac Trail, and Cowboy Trail to take riders into Wyoming. Home state pride!
