Welcome Pedalers!

Who We Are

Founded in 1968, the Omaha Pedalers Bicycle Club is a 40+ year-old organization that promotes the interests and sponsors a variety of rides for all levels and interests of cycling. Historically focused on road riding but recognizing the increasing popularity of cycling, we have broadened our focus to include a variety of riding options with an appeal to cyclists of all ages, interests and abilities. Our mix of rides has numerous options from fast and challenging to less intensive, more leisurely rides and everything in between.

Special Events

The club sponsors special rides and activities throughout the year: The annual spring picnic to Silver City, IA, via the Wabash Trace; the annual Memorial Day Ride and overnight campout to Little Sioux Scout Ranch; and the Magnolia ride through Iowa’s scenic Loess Hills in late September are our signature events. We are one of the founders of the Bicycle Ride Across Nebraska (BRAN) and provide technical support as well as acting as advisors for the annual event. Many Pedalers participate in this week-long ride.

Why Join?

The rides: This is what we are all about—rides--for all levels of riders. With an extensive trails system, good rural roads close to the metro area, and now bicycle access to the Iowa side of the Missouri River via the new Bob Kerry pedestrian/cycling bridge, great cycling opportunities are significantly expanded.

Safety and Security: Riding in a group brings a sense of security for those who may have concerns about riding alone. Personal safety and mechanical problems with the bike are the two main concerns not only of newer, less experienced riders but also the more experienced.

Advocacy: We are active in promoting and supporting cycling in our community through collaboration  with various groups such as Activate Omaha, Bikeable Communities, the Papio-Missouri Natural Resource District, the City of Omaha , Southwest Iowa Nature Trails, and other organizations supporting cycling and healthy living issues.

Monthly Newsletter and Web Site: We publish a monthly newsletter listing upcoming club rides as well as other rides sponsored by non-profit groups and other bicycle clubs in the region. Our web site also has a variety of other useful and interesting information such as maps of popular rides and a photo gallery as well links to numerous cycling-related web sites.
